Just in case anyone wanted to know what programs I use when I make caption.
Now this is not necessarily the best or, for that matter, the easiest method but it’s worked pretty well for me so far.
All
non animated captions are done in Photoscape. Specifically in the
Editor function. It is by no means a good editor but the Text function
is pretty solid. Full access to your font library and the ability to add
an outline around the text. Having an outline is really important as it
makes the text legible over any colour. Using black as the outline
colour will give you the best contrast. I generally use Arial as the font, while boring, it is easy to
read. It doesn’t have a spell or
grammar check which is why sometime I will accidentally the whole
caption.
For animated gifs, I might have the most
convoluted method possible. The program I use is GIMP, like Photoscape,
it is free. I won’t go into details as the method is easy once you’ve
done it twenty times but shit are there a bunch of steps. What you’ll
want is an add-on tool for GIMP called AnimStack. It’s job is to add
text to every frame of a gif. So when you have a .gif with 150+ frames,
this is the only sane way to do it on GIMP. It works great, any problems
I’ve had were my own doing.
And that’s it. Any other questions, send me a message and I'll see what I can do.
